Can you trust your job-cost report?

Answer Yes, Not sure or No. Questions 6 to 9 also offer N/A if they don't apply to your business (no subs, no employees doing the work, no change orders). N/A is not a No.

Do your estimates and your accounting use the same cost categories?
Does every sold job get a budget, including labor hours where labor is a direct job cost?
Are direct job costs (labor, materials, subs, equipment, other direct costs) kept separate from overhead?
When someone makes a job-related purchase, are the job and what was bought recorded at the time?
Is every vendor bill (and every sub invoice, if you use subcontractors) attached to a job and cost category before it is paid?
If you use subcontractors: can you see what you've committed to each sub, not just what they've billed so far?
If your own crew does the work: do employees track time by job, not just total hours for payroll?
If labor is part of your job costs: while a job is running, can you see budgeted vs actual labor hours?
If you do change orders: are they priced, approved and tracked with their own costs?
Can you pull estimate vs actual and gross margin for a finished job without rebuilding it in a spreadsheet?
If a clear process existed, would someone on your team own reviewing job costs every week?
Would leadership require the team (and subs, if you use them) to follow it: time by job, receipts with the job, invoices against scope?
Your answers stay in your browser until you press "Email my results" further down this page. Then your name, email, type of work and a summary of your readout are sent. The readout counts gaps (for example 6 of 10). It is not a pass or fail grade.
